BE A VOLUNTEER
Fishers of Men Outreach and GET (Global Education Trust) is operating the Basildon Charity shop together. You would have probably noticed that in the article published in the Yellow Advertiser.
The majority of our volunteering roles in the Basildon & Southend shops includes but not limited to giving out FREE BOOKS, DVDs, VHS TAPES, CDs, PC & XBOX GAMES etc., which are saved from landfills and are offered for free to customers instead. Customers may make a donation to GET/FSM, and out of keen interests can enquire about other projects if they wish to get involved.
Volunteering tasks include:
Welcoming customers warmly
Keeping the shop clean at all times
Answering customers’ questions about free items in the shop
Raising awareness of other valuable projects
Talking to customers about the possibilities of volunteering
The shops are run with volunteers, giving them a real sense of ownership and pride in their work. Volunteers are guided and supported by GET/FSM staff, whilst at the same time volunteers have the freedom to make decisions and implement their own ideas.
Volunteering allows the following skills to flourish:
Teamwork
Confidence in dealing with customers
Organisation
Communication and listening skills
